Karakia by the Ven. Dr. Lyndon Drake at the lecture, Faith and Anxiety in an Age of Pandemic, by Dr. Ashley Bloomfield, November 10th, 2021

Kia īnoi tātou i runga i te ingoa
o te Matua, te Tama, me te Wairua Tapu.
Amine.
Let us pray in the name
of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit.
Amen.
OPENING PRAYER
Hei mua koe i a mātou, e Ihowā,
hei tohutohu i ā mātou mahi katoa;
ko koe anō hoki hei whakakaha i a mātou;
kia whai korōria ai koe i ā mātou mahi katoa,
he mea tīmata, he mea mahi,
he mea whakaoti i roto i a koe,
i te mea e atawhaitia nei e koe;
ko Īhu Karaiti hoki tō mātou Ariki. Āmine.
Go before us, Lord, in all we do
with your most gracious favour,
and guide us with your continual help,
that in all our works
begun, continued
and ended in you,
we may glorify your holy name,
and finally by your mercy receive everlasting life;
through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.
THE LORD’S PRAYER
E Ihowā, tohungia mātou.
E te Karaiti, tohungia mātou.
E Ihowā, tohungia mātou.
E tō mātou Matua i te rangi
Kia tapu tōu Ingoa.
Kia tae mai tōu rangatiratanga.
Kia meatia tāu e pai ai
ki runga ki te whenua,
kia rite anō ki tō te rangi.
Hōmai ki a mātou āianei
he taro mā mātou mō tēnei rā.
Murua ō mātou hara,
Me mātou hoki e muru nei
i ō te hunga e hara ana ki a mātou.
Aua hoki mātou e kawea kia whakawaia;
Engari whakaorangia mātou i te kino:
Nōu hoki te rangatiratanga, te kaha,
me te korōria,
Āke ake ake.   Āmine.

Lord, have mercy.
Christ, have mercy.
Lord, have mercy.
Our Father in heaven,
hallowed be your name,
your kingdom come,
your will be done,
on earth as in heaven.
Give us today our daily bread.
Forgive us our sins
as we forgive those
who sin against us.
Save us from the time of trial
and deliver us from evil.
For the kingdom, the power,
and the glory are yours
now and for ever.    Amen.

A PRAYER FOR ASHLEY BLOOMFIELD
E te Atua Aroha,
Ka whakamoemiti mātou ki a koe mō tāu Tama,
kua tata tōu rangatiratanga;
I tēnei wā o te Mate Korona tekau ma iwa, whakahāngia iho tōu Wairua Tapu
hei whakakaha, hei arahi i tāu pononga
Tākuta Ashley Bloomfield,
kia puta mai ai i āna kupu katoa, i āna mahi katoa,
ka whakaatu mai anō ia i te tūmanako
o tōu rangatiratanga tonutanga:
Kia kore ai he māuiui, he pōuri, he mate rānei
mō te hunga e rite ana ki a ia
ka whakawhirinaki ki a koe
i te rā hari e hoki mai ai a Īhu Karaiti
i runga i tōna kaha me tōna korōria;
ko ia e ora ana, e kīngi tahi ana me koe,
me te Wairua Tapu,
kotahi anō Atua, āianei, ā, āke tonu atu.  Āmine.
Loving God,
We praise you for your Son,
our Saviour Jesus Christ,
who spoke and healed the sick,
and who acted and revealed that your kingdom has drawn near;
In this time of Covid-19,
send your Holy Spirit
to strengthen and guide your servant
Dr Ashley Bloomfield,
in order that in all he says and does,
he too would reveal the hope
of your everlasting kingdom:
That there will be no more sickness, grief, or death
for those who share
his trust in you
on the joyful day when Jesus Christ returns
in his power and glory;
Who lives and reigns with you
and the Holy Spirit,
one God, now and forever.  Amen.
THE GRACE

The grace
of our Lord Jesus Christ,
and the love of God,
and the fellowship of the Holy Spirit
be with us all forever and ever.     Amen.

CLOSING PRAYER
Meatia kia hīkoi mātou i mua i tōu aroaro,
i roto hoki i tō mātou Ariki, i a Īhu Karaiti.    Āmine.
Lord, you have called us to serve you.
Grant that we may walk in your presence:
your love in our hearts,
your truth in our minds,
your strength in our wills;
until, at the end of our journey,
we know the joy of our homecoming
and the welcome of your embrace,
through Jesus Christ our Lord.
Amen.
FINAL BLESSING
The peace of God, which surpasses all understanding guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus;
and the blessing of God Almighty, Father, Son, and Holy Spirit, be upon you
now and forever.
Amen.
