Exploratory Group Discussion Topics

November

We will discuss this question

Given that we are considering our experience of God, could we consider what it means for us that God became flesh and ‘lived among us’—as an approach to what it means for us who are flesh and how we do or might experience God

October

Following on from September we discussed this question

We have been enjoying discussions about spiritually ‘wild’ places and coming across or seeking spaces where we feel the ’sacred’ or where conversion has happened. We can turn to the experiences of others (useful podcasts, indigenous cultures) to help us find or experience the ‘sacred’. I imagine it is different for everybody, but in what way as individuals do we experience (or have experienced) the ‘presence’, the movement of spirit, the numinous?  Is this in nature, in recognised thin spaces or in ordinary everyday life?

September

We discussed two new eco-converts to  Christianity, Paul Kingsnorth and Martin Shaw

July and August

We discussed an interview between Brian and Christine

Here is the URL (below) for Christina’s version of her story. Her spirit is captured by her own account far better than I could convey it. She was interviewed by an artist/documentary maker Julie Cunningham, who has edited the interview down substantially. The interview was between Julie and Christina–I had nothing to do with it except for asking Christina if she would consent to be interviewed. Her speech is clear but obviously somewhat affected by previous surgery to her tongue. Her timeline is a little different in places to mine. I hope it helps flesh out some of the questions emerging from her story. As I said Christina has willingly consented for her story to be for public consumption
