Abstract:

In this talk Niki will discuss eco-anxiety and eco-grief. This includes how they are experienced and how they are exacerbated by the apocalyptic narratives common in the media. She will also consider the role of hope and of learning to control one’s fear in mitigating these emotions in oneself and others. The talk will touch on difficult issues, such as the ethics of training a generation of anxious young people in order to get the eco-warriors we need to save the planet.
